New Heights is serving unaccompanied youth between the ages of 18-24 with Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing coupled with wrap-around case management services. Case management services are also provided for at-risk and unaccompanied youth ages 16-24.
We're raising funds to keep this program completely free for participants so there is one less barrier on the road to independence. We're also in the process of remodeling one of our buildings to be a youth drop-in center, which will give homeless youth a safe place to shower, store belongings, meet with counselors and case managers, and attend youth-centered support groups. Engaging homeless youth in services is a challenge; this center will change that.
We have plans to purchase computer workstations and furniture for the drop-in center as well, which will be a gathering location for the Youth Action Board: a group of youth ages 16-24 who have personal experience with homelessness or have been a part of the foster care system, coming together to be a voice in the creation and implementation of a comprehensive and coordinated plan for our community.
